The Peace and Security Council of the African Union has called on Sudan and South Sudan to overcome their differences over oil and the demaracation of their border.
The Council is currently hosting a meeting of the heads of member states in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as part of the Union’s annual summit.
The Council is urging the two countries to reopen their border, facilitate the resumption of trade and support the livelihoods of border communities. They also welcomed recent progress by the two parties as they work toward a comprehensive resolution to their outstanding disputes.
The Council went on stress the urgent need to ensure access to humanitarian assistance in border regions affected by the conflict.
