Russian president Vladimir Putin arrived in Jordan on Tuesday to open a Russian pilgrimage site near the Jordan river.
After inspecting the honour guard, Putin and his delegation met King Abdullah and top Jordanian officials to discuss regional challenges including rising violence in Syria and deadlocked peace talks. Russian diplomats said talks will also focus on Iran’s nuclear program and means of boosting economic cooperation between Jordan and Russia.
The visit comes as Russia faces misgivings among Arab states for its continued support of the Syrian government, throughout 15-months of bloody clashes between government and opposition forces there.
