Seven people have been taken to hospital with injuries, including the two pilots who have suffered only minor injuries. Firefighters are still searching the crash site for casualties.
The local WTKR TV said the crashed plane was an F/A 18D Navy jet. It crashed into apartment buildings in the city of Virginia Beach - resulting in heavy fire damage to 5 structures.
There is no word yet on the cause of the accident.
