Cities across the US have been ringing in the New Year with massive fireworks displays.
From iconic buildings, such as Seattle’s Space Needle to the hotels of Las Vegas, fireworks lit up the skies, ushering in 2012. And while New York has its traditional crystal ball drop in Times Square, other US cities have had their own "drops."
In Atlanta, a giant peach was dropped; in Nashville, a huge music note; and along the sands of Panama City in Florida, a big beach ball fell to start the festivities. But quirkiest of all was in Alabama, where a very large moonpie cookie was dropped 96 meters.
The popular southern cookie consists of marshmallow between two graham crackers, and is covered in chocolate. A tasty way to start the new year!
